Light layering ideas for a stylish winter

The winters are a-coming and it’s the season when you need to look your best, while keeping the cold at bay. Thankfully, Indian winters don’t demand us to be smothered in heavy woollens & innumerable layers (unless you have a home in the hills). So staying stylish this season is all about how to play up those light layers. Read on for some tips & tricks!

Don’t count, just flaunt
The number of layers that make up your outfit is just that – numbers. You can look as chic in as little or as many layers as you can carry off. Wear a cotton trench coat over a dress with stockings & pumps for a chic, ladylike look. Whereas, you can also pile up in a light jacket over an unbuttoned plaid shirt over a tee & denim outfit with a scarf & hat thrown in for good measure!

Go the long way
Long cardigans or floor-length capes are the trendiest new entrants in the layering game. You can pair these versatile pieces with all kinds of outfits – from girly dresses to tank tops & cropped denims to shirtdresses to crop tops & maxi skirts. Just invest in a sturdy number in a neutral hue and get ready to face the cold in style!

Layer up with accessories
Sometimes a sweatshirt or a wool blend dress is perfect for keeping your body warm. That’s when you can layer up using accessories such as scarves, caps, stoles, leg warmers, stockings etc. A quirky scarf is a great way of adding a chic twist to any outfit, while a pair of classy stockings can be your BFF for those cold nights when you want to flaunt your LBD.

Try some DIY
You can go for some cool DIY ideas if you want to look fashionable, yet stand out of the crowd. Borrow one of your mom’s shawls, throw it over your shoulders so that the ends hang in the front and belt it up around the waist to give it the look of a stylish cape or kimono! Wear a printed pencil skirt on top of a pair of solid coloured cigarette pants for a chic look that keeps you warm too. A smart blazer with a classy dress can take you directly from work to party – just jazz up the jacket by adding a bunch of pins & buttons on the lapel and you are good to go!
